OUR TEAM
Abed Sinno
Co-founder
First up, Head chef, Co-founder Abed, aka white widow, aka the abdominal snow man. At first glance, who would think this guy is 100% Lebanese?!
Abed was born and raised in the heart of Lebanon’s capital, Beirut.
Like most Lebanese kids, Abed spent his summers at the beaches and winters doing anything that kept him away from studying, some more extreme than others, when asked about some stuff he did as a child, Abed said casually, ‘ me and my cousins would ‘borrow’ our dads guns to shoot bullets off the roof. I guess the 70s and 80s in Beirut were a lot different than today.
Anyway, back to the food.
He uses family recipes for marination sauce, garlic sauce and our secret chilli sauce.
If you would compare him to our menu, it would be a falafel. Quite rough on the outside but soft on the inside. When he’s in the kitchen or the van preparing for our customers, he’s seriously passionate and wants to make every wrap, salad or bowl the best he’s ever done.
As soon as he steps out, he’s joyful, funny and loves to show his love to his friends and family.
Karim Jammal
Co-founder
Next up, Karim. If abed is the heart and soul of LIL WATAN, Karim is the arms and legs.
Karim was born and raised in Worcester, England. Yes, quite a culture shift from Beirut Lebanon.
Karim visited Lebanon a few times during his childhood during summer holidays, but when he turned 18, moved to Lebanon for a fresh start. A move that was only supposed to be a 3-4-year stint until he graduated university, turned out to be over 10 years.
Beirut does that to you.
Karim left Lebanon a few times to play rugby overseas, but always found his way back HOME in Beirut.
Karim is a passionate man (like all Lebanese). This helps with his role in Lil Watan, which is to find markets and events that match the same passion for food as us.
If Karim was an item off the menu, we would say the secret chilli sauce, full of personality and once palleted, fully satisfying (these are his words of course!)
